Emission Control Systems Engineering

Focus personnel have broad experience in providing process engineering services for air pollution control projects. Relevant applications include particulate collection, mercury and other metal controls, acid gas scrubbing, organic emissions controls, and nitrogen oxide emission controls.

Numerous projects have been completed that involved:

bulletEmission characterization
bulletIdentification of performance improvements for existing controls
bulletFeasibility studies to evaluate retrofit of existing controls and to compare control alternatives
bulletConceptual and process design
bulletAir pollution control equipment selection and specification
bulletVent collection system design
bulletProcurement and installation of air pollution control systems
bulletStartup, shakedown, and trouble shooting of air pollution control equipment
bulletPreparation of operating manuals and operator training

Air pollution control systems have been designed for treating emissions from both thermal treatment processes and a variety of types of industrial processes. Specific types of air pollution control unit operations that have been designed, operated, or tested by Focus personnel include:

• Carbon adsorption systems
• Condensers
• Coolers
• Quench chambers
• Venturi scrubbers
• Spray dryers
• NOx control technologies
• Dry sorbent injection
   systems
• Baghouses
• Packed and spray scrubbers
• Ionizing wet scrubbers
• Electrostatic precipitators
• Fume incineration systems
• Catalytic oxidizers
