Alternative Waste Management Review
If you’re not managing your hazardous and solid
wastes for maximum benefit, there are many legitimate waste
management alternatives available under the RCRA regulatory
framework to bring maximum benefit to a facility. These alternatives
can be employed in lieu of solid and hazardous waste on-site or
off-site treatment and disposal, including:
.Raw material substitution
.Solvent re-use
.Commercial boiler fuel
.On-site treatment, etc.
Let Focus assist you in implementing our Alternative
Management Review (AMR) program at your facility to identify these
opportunities. Focus personnel have extensive hands-on experience with
chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and TSDF operations and
facilities. This allows us to integrate with an organization to develop
innovative strategies and solutions on a waste stream by waste stream
basis.
The AMR program was originally developed as a tactical
method to implement a facility’s Waste Minimization Strategy. As the AMR
program evolved, it has also been employed in product lifecycle analyses
as well as product line and facility viability assessments.
In its most elementary form, the AMR involves
reviewing the waste streams generated by a facility and determining
whether those materials can be utilized in alternative applications.
Other compliance and cost saving opportunities are also identified, such
as ensuring proper waste classification, reducing waste sampling and
analysis, identifying alternative disposal options, etc.
In more complex AMR implementation scenarios, Focus
personnel have worked back through a process to identify the “point of
generation” of each waste stream, recommended process changes to reduce
waste generation (both equipment and raw materials), and identified
waste management alternatives such as on-site treatment options or
variance requests.
